NJCEA 48th Annual Conference

“New Voices: Revitalizing the Humanities Classroom”

March 28, 2026 Seton Hall University

    Call for Proposals

The humanities classroom is changing; as educators face evolving student needs, technological shifts, and cultural transformations, the question becomes how do we reinvigorate our teaching and learning in ways that are inclusive, innovative, and impactful? This conference seeks to amplify new voices—fresh perspectives, creative pedagogies, and bold ideas that challenge traditional paradigms and reimagine the future of humanities education.

We invite proposals that explore, but are not limited to, the following areas:

    • Innovative teaching strategies for literature, writing, and related disciplines
    • Integrating digital tools and technology in humanities classrooms
    • Decolonizing and diversifying curricula
    • Interdisciplinary approaches and collaborative learning models
    • Student-centered and experiential learning practices
    • Assessment and engagement in hybrid or online environments
    • Humanities and social justice: activism, ethics, and equity in education
    • Creative assignments and multimodal projects
    • The role of AI and emerging technologies in humanities education
    • Alternative assessment methods

Both single papers and fully formed panels may be submitted for consideration.

Submissions for single papers should include a 300-word abstract and brief bio.

Submissions for complete panels should include a 300-word overview and the names and affiliations of all participants.

In order to guarantee as broad involvement in the conference as possible, participants may only present in one session and chair one session.

Proposals should be submitted at the conference website by February 16, 2026:

Questions can be directed to Maria Miranda at Willmaria.Miranda@stockton.edu

Graduate Student Awards in Literature (literary analysis) or Pedagogy (teaching methodologies and reflections), and Writing (fiction, non-fiction, and poetry)

Graduate students are invited to submit papers or creative pieces for the NJCEA annual Graduate Student Awards. The winners of these two awards will receive Amazon gift cards and have their papers published in The Watchung Review, the official publication of the NJCEA. Complete submissions can be sent as electronic attachments to Rachael Warmington at rkw2111@gmail.com by February 16, 2026.

In order to be eligible to win the graduate student awards, students must present their work at the conference. The deadline for submission of essays and creative pieces for the conference is February 16, 2026.
