Conference Information

43rd Annual NJCEA Conference October 17th and October 24th, 2020 Seton Hall University via MS Teams

Important! if you are planning on coming to the conference via Teams and you are not a SHU faculty member, please send your email address to kelly.shea@shu.edu so you can be added to the NJCEA Team, where the conference will be held virtually. If you received the program via email, we have your email address.   


To be eligible to present and/or attend the 43rd Annual New Jersey College English Association Conference, you need to be a member of the NJCEA.  


The NJCEA Annual Membership Rate is $20. Please contact Mary Balkun at Mary.Balkun@shu.edu for membership payment details.    


Keynote Speaker

"Essential Skills and Liberal Arts"


Dr. Leonard Cassuto is Professor of English at Fordham University, where he teaches American literature and writes about subjects ranging from crime fiction to the scientific search for room-temperature semiconductors.  He also writes a column for The Chronicle of Higher Education called “The Graduate Adviser,” where he examines the state of the profession in general and graduate education in particular. Awards

Steven J. Rosen Mentor Award 

This honor is a unique opportunity to recognize a member of our organization who has served as a mentor to faculty members who are beginning their careers.


Graduate Student Awards in Literature (literary analysis), Pedagogy (teaching methodologies and reflections) and Writing (fiction, non-fiction, and poetry) 

Each year, graduate students are cordially invited to submit papers and creative pieces for the NJCEA Annual Graduate Student Awards. Winners receive an Amazon gift card and are published in The Watchung Review, the official publication of the NJCEA.
